Yesterday I picked up the twins for some heavy lifting. Actually I could do it myself, but it's more fun with someone. And they always want to earn money. Besides. Once I saw the dead creatures, I would have stop.
Creatures: One petrified mouse and a bird. I have no idea what kind, I didn't find it, ask, or look. But in his/her attempt to get out of my basement it knocked a lot of glassware off the shelves in the cistern. And pulled out insulation. Which begs the thought, who'd put insulation in a cistern? Probably my father.
I hadn't planned on cleaning up the cistern. We were hot and I sent the boy-teen thru the cistern to open the bulkhead door. He's the one that found the chaos.
Oh, and if anyone needs mason jars, don't go to Giant. Ask me. The quantity of mason jars needed to preserve food for a family of 10+ and that of a single person, differs greatly.
Since the boy-teen ended up cleaning up the cistern and the entrance way to the bulkhead, we didn't get the whole basement done. The craft storage area needs to be done yet.
It resulted in some serious recycling, and trash. 10 bags. I have a per bag rate so I needed to call the trash company for a bulk price.
The girl-teen scraped/sanded the patio furniture until the storm hit.
After having pizza for lunch we went back across town to grab Bubba, their little brother. I've been itching to go to lost cave and it was HHH. I also needed a test run with Bubba before his big mystery birthday adventure.
Of course we arrived at the cave just after the tour left and had to wait a half hour. So we went outside and hiked the nature trail, took pictures with the caveman painting, and panned for "gold".
It's been awhile since I've been there. Everything looked and felt much smaller and lower. The paths, the ceilings, everything. But it was a cave and it was cool. And Bubba behaved. I think he really wants to do his birthday trip!
We didn't use the outhouse in the parking lot, but as we were walking to the car a branch snapped off a tree and fell right next to the outhouse. I would have....well....you know. I would have been in the right place.
