a school color run

Megan's child is now seven and is the second grade. His elementary school had a color run today, so we all did it. I figured it would be short so I didn't bother putting on sneakers.

The run was supposed to start at 1. I think it started closer to 12:48. Basically we circled the property. It might have been a half mile. But it was fun. The child had a squirt bottle of pink and sprayed everyone he could. My bag was green. I couldn't get it open. By the time I did, the big color cloud was over. Oh well.

There was a few other activities for the kids. The fire department had one hose on to run thru. It was warm enough. In another area they had a hose running and three or four kids held it and knocked down fire targets. Our child didn't want to do either.

It's raining now. All the color will wash away.

the artful dash

Today Angel and I did the Artful Dash 5K on the Karl Sterner Art Trail. We are both out of shape, me more than her, and haven't done a race in a long time. And we didn't finish last! The race began at the entrance to Lafayette College, near the stairs.

Things have changed a lot at Lafayette since I worked there, and since my colleague and I walked there during lunch hour. Lafayette's SPOT is now Don Juan's Mexican Restaurant. I guess they moved from the almost on-campus location. It was tiny and this place is huge. We were disappointed that they were not serving taco's for breakfast. Sad. After the race I was ready, and they were a sponsor.

The road that runs next to the creek now has a huge brick archway with the name of the trail on it. I'm thinking Lafayette might have had something to do with that. And that road also has a huge sculpture. The "Easton flag" has been removed from the intersection and replaced it with a divided road. I need to go there and explore when I'm not doing a race.

The race started at the fancy archway and followed the road to Bushkill Drive (?). Then turned right, crossed the road, and we entered the path. We crossed the blue bridge, turned right and headed down the KSAT. Then we turned right on the nature path. When that ended we returned to the trail. At 13th street we turned around and went back. But this time we stayed on the path.

My ass was dragging. Angel was going strong. She kept spinning around and coming back for me. It took us 65 minutes to do the race. I think Angel would have finished in under an hour if she didn't keep coming back for me.

bethlehem - north volkssport walk

Yesterday was the Volkssport walk in North Bethlehem. Unbeknown to me it was also Harvest Fest. Oops. Had I not been hosting I probably wouldn't have gone. I'm up to my eyeballs in work.

My phone rang at 9 am. It was Dave who was leading the bike group on the D&L. He had come up from Collegeville and was unable to use the Main Street ramp. We need to alert everyone. Only problem is, I had no idea who everyone is. I have no phone numbers, emails, nothing. I sent one text to someone who would likely be coming. They sent a text to a few other people. We ended up with seven walkers and seven bikers.

When we reached the Bretheran's house there was a large family searching for a ceremony. We tried to help them find it. It clearly wasn't outside. It must have been in Peter Hall or maybe Foy Hall. But their instructions said nothing. We continued on.

When we reached Moravian University (yep, it got an upgrade), there were corn hole sets out on the lawn. The guys started playing corn hole. The rest of the walk was pretty uneventful.

When we reached God's Acre, we went inside. One of the walkers had never been there.

It was a beautiful day for a walk. I'm glad I went. And although I've been without my fit bit for a week. But I know I walked a 5K.
