missed it

Yesterday was National Walk @ Lunch Day and I missed it. I'm angry because everyday I walk at lunch, and other times, and yesterday I didn't. Crap. It's in my digital calendar for next year. I shall not miss it again.

I've done really well walking all month, but I haven't done so well training. Thank goodness Bonnie drags me along on Saturdays or I'll be unready. I actually stood her up on Sunday. I totally forgot.

My problem is attitude. I have not shook the March blues yet. In addition during March, I got really behind in my classes and all my other work and I've been running backwards to catch up. Excuses, I know.

Last night I locked my keys in my car. It was 11 pm and I was alone in the schools parking lot. I walked the parking lot about 20 times. Took some pictures. It's pretty at night. It was a great use of my time, but it kept me up for hours afterwards. Fell asleep about 4 am.

progress "creates a vacuum"

I've kept up my walking fairly well this week. I'm happy. Think I'm back in the swing of things.

Bethlehem's south side is changing. They've built a casino, and claim there is more traffic. It's already a bottle neck at rush hour. How much more can we tolerate. They've wasted tens of thousands of dollars on consultants, done many studies and the results of each, to me, is horrible.

Walking may be the only way to get around town when they are done.

Really all they needed to do was invite south side residents residents over for a meeting. We could tell them the problems, and more than likely the solutions and it would cost a couple of dozen pizzas and a keg of soda. And the price of one road engineer to write it all down and figure it out.

So now the nightmare begins.

Bonnie and I walked down west Third last Sunday. The trees were not marked for removal. Wednesday they were. Every tree, bush and plant at the triangle of the Hill to Hill bridge will be killed. Every tree on west Third, doomed. The plan calls for the Second Avenue avenue ramp to be rebuilt, and to make Wyandotte one way.

It is what it is and I can't stop it.

But it does effect my quality of life. A entire section of my walking route will be out of commission for months. Maybe forever if they don't replace the sidewalks. The new curb-cuts are already a nightmare. In the end, perhaps they'll replant the trees, but it will take 30 years before they provide shade. That is, if the residents tend them. Because I know for certain the City won't.

sorry for not posting

When I started this blog mys sister Barbara said something like, if you're going to do it, you need to post. So many people send me their link and then nothing for six months. I think I've done well, and actually when walking season came I was hoping to post more often, not less often.

Sometimes life does not work out the way you plan.

I've been very blue from the events of last month, started a term online, and had so many projects to grade from my on-ground class that blogging was the least of my priorities. Throw in a two-day Horses in the Classroom faculty development workshop and free time goes out the window.

But I have to walk. And I've walked a lot.

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday I did two-miles with my friend Mary Liz.  Monday and Wednesday Alison and I walked around College Hill at lunch time, length unknown. Maybe a half hour. Friday afternoon I did about an hour with Betsy. We didn't take the dogs, they moved. ): It was nice and weird, at the same time. Saturday and Sunday I walked with Bonnie. Saturday was three miles. Sunday a little more than two.

Monday I went out at lunchtime. Tuesday I walked with Mary Liz and the hike to the classroom from the remote lot. Today we walked the stairs from campus to town and College Hill back to campus. Plus I made two trips to Markle Hall and one to Farinon.

Plus I signed up for two 5Ks even though I swore them off last year.

And I went took Sharon to the gym twice AND worked out on the equipment. Including Easter Sunday. I still have the trial from Dave to use at 24/7 fitness. I will use it.

The "every two feet" Facebook page is up and running. Search "every two feet" to join. I hope to post one walk a month even in winter. I have 14 "fans", two who are strangers. How fun is that?

Yep, this fat girl is back to walking. It's about time. Now I just need to brush the dust of my pedometer and start to wear it again!

making progress

Today I set up the Every Two Feet walking group on Facebook. (Search every two feet) As soon as I pick a date for the first walk, I'll email my training group from last year. We'll see if this happens.

I also talked with my friend Betsy and starting Friday, we'll be walking again. This time without the dogs. They've moved to suburban Philly with Beth. ):

Then I emailed Mary Liz about morning walks.

Tonight, I'll talk to Bonnie about training walks for the Avon.

Looks like this fat girl is returning to walking. And not a minute too soon.

march challenge, incomplete

For my March challenge I decided to form a walking club. I got the logo done, but that's about it. The chaos of the previous month left little time for much else.

The walking club will be called "Every Two Feet". Every two feet could mean progression from couch to fit; gender, race and/or age; or it could mean barefoot,  Birkinstocks, or sneakers. You can be walking for pleasure or training for a charity walk. My friend Angel came up with it. It's so inclusive.

I'm going to schedule April 24 as the first date for the walking club. I also need to set up a Facebook page for it. And check on prices for t-shirts. While I'm at it I need to check on prices for shirts for Bonnies Boobies. We are officially now a team.

Training begins this month, I think tomorrow for the Avon walk. Bonnie and I will go out together on Saturdays. She'll be doing more training on the treadmill. I'm contacting my friend and neighbor Mary Liz today to see if she wants to resume the morning walks.

It's bright and sunny and warm today. The rains are finally over. After class I'm going to do the walking trail at NCC. Monday I did the stairs at Acopian. If I can get a walk in for the next three days, without excuses, I think I'll be back on track. And not a minute too soon.

If you have a physical challenge for me for April, let me know. I've done stairs and I've done marathon walks. I thought about running a 5K, but my knees would not like that.
