thursday walk

It's that time of the year again. I have to gather up my statistics for the Volkssport group. That means going to the three sites, collecting data and sending the money in. It also means that we have to do those walks. When in Rome ....

Yesterday we did a variation on Bethlehem-South. Megan, Bonnie, the Wee One and I walked to the Comfort Suites, collected our data and then went down the Greenway to Northampton Community College Fowler Campus.  There, Bonnie and I had student massages scheduled. The kids are getting in their practical time before the licensing exam.  Well worth the $20 for the half hour. Bonnie wished she would have booked the hour.

When we walked in the teacher was excited to see the baby and asked Megan if she could borrow him to show the students something. She said yes. She was hoping for a baby massage, but alas, the demo was all about reflexes. She gathered up all the students, and they watched and tested. he was in hog-heaven.

Then we left NCC and headed thru the soccer madness at ArtsQuest to the casino, up the hill and back the Greenway to the Farmer's Market. The baby was getting less happy, but we got our groceries, and headed toward home. At Broughal, he was done. Screaming at the top of his lungs. Tired of the stroller, hungry and shockingly not wet. We decided salads at Wendy's was what was for lunch.

After lunch, with a happier baby, we headed home to visit the roomie.

In a minute were all heading to Betsy's for the 'burb walk. Then I need to stop at Comfort Suites to pick up those numbers.

sorry for not posting

When I started this blog mys sister Barbara said something like, if you're going to do it, you need to post. So many people send me their link and then nothing for six months. I think I've done well, and actually when walking season came I was hoping to post more often, not less often.

Sometimes life does not work out the way you plan.

I've been very blue from the events of last month, started a term online, and had so many projects to grade from my on-ground class that blogging was the least of my priorities. Throw in a two-day Horses in the Classroom faculty development workshop and free time goes out the window.

But I have to walk. And I've walked a lot.

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday I did two-miles with my friend Mary Liz.  Monday and Wednesday Alison and I walked around College Hill at lunch time, length unknown. Maybe a half hour. Friday afternoon I did about an hour with Betsy. We didn't take the dogs, they moved. ): It was nice and weird, at the same time. Saturday and Sunday I walked with Bonnie. Saturday was three miles. Sunday a little more than two.

Monday I went out at lunchtime. Tuesday I walked with Mary Liz and the hike to the classroom from the remote lot. Today we walked the stairs from campus to town and College Hill back to campus. Plus I made two trips to Markle Hall and one to Farinon.

Plus I signed up for two 5Ks even though I swore them off last year.

And I went took Sharon to the gym twice AND worked out on the equipment. Including Easter Sunday. I still have the trial from Dave to use at 24/7 fitness. I will use it.

The "every two feet" Facebook page is up and running. Search "every two feet" to join. I hope to post one walk a month even in winter. I have 14 "fans", two who are strangers. How fun is that?

Yep, this fat girl is back to walking. It's about time. Now I just need to brush the dust of my pedometer and start to wear it again!

Almost...

It's gorgeous today. Warm but not humid. The whole week has been great, but this is the first chance I really had to enjoy it. School has started on-ground, my online classes are a grizzly bear, and my hours a mess. It happens every fall.

My walking routine also changes. I keep long walks to the weekend, and shorter walks, sometimes really short during the week. On NCC days I park at the remotest lot and walk in to assure that I get to at least 10K steps.

Last year we walked at lunchtime, but a large project in the office keeps everyone in. I was determined to go out today. When I walked to Pfenning for a meeting thru the football stadium I decided I was going to to the stadium stairs. I tried it once before, and reached the 50 yard line before I was out of breathe and my chest was pounding. I haven't tried it since. However, my weekend walks have reached 14 miles, and my BP meds are adjusted, could I do it? Not quite.

So I put on my Simple shoes, left my office and told Allison if I wasn't back in 20 minutes to call for help. I was serious. With my sky high BP a stroke could be around the corner.

After the warm-up walk to the stadium, I did the home side starting at the scoreboard end, which I assume is the home end. It's about 100 stairs down, then another 100 back up. I did seven concourses. About 1400 stairs. It brought me to the visitors 20 yard line. Since about the 50 I had to stop once on each trip up. My knees were sore and I was tired. I finished the 20 and wanted to push on. I think I could have forced myself to do one more, I would have been breathing like daddy and my heart would have been pounding. I was nearing the 20 minutes and Allison would have come looking for me. So I was sensible for a change and stopped. Shocked, huh?

I'm going to do the steps at NCC, and keep doing ACE. Maybe I'll walk up to St. Luke's and do 8 floors. I'll be walking about 30 miles this long weekend. Maybe, just maybe, next week I can do the whole thing. A fat girl can dream.
