the munchkin went splat

It's looked like it's going to rain all day, but hasn't. I decided to test my luck by not only hanging the laundry to dry, but by calling Bonnie to see if she wanted to walk. She had some things to do so suggested 1 pm, and she was bringing her grandchild.

The munchkin is 5, going on 40. Fiercely independent, yet a bit of a cling on. We descded to go to Trout Creek Park, under the Susquehanna Street Bridge. This park is so neglected by the city that it doesn't even appear of the list of parks. It should appear right below Trexler.

Clearly poor people don't get to have parks. The path on the north section is okay and the grass is cut. It ends at Audborn Street. The south side is in much worse condition. Litter everywhere, trail crumbling. Tall weeds. The basketball area is nice. So is the playground.

Both sides are out and back.

When we arrived at the play area, we put 15 minutes on the timer. He had moved to the swings which were kind-of high. I helped him up and pushed him, and he was trying to make himself go. He had the leg motion correct, but hadn't figured out the power motion yet. For that you have to put your back into it. I guess his hands were sweaty and he went out and slid right off the swing and landed on his little butt. The he fell backwards and bumped his head. He was startled but fine. He gave me the "what the hell just happened look."

I was brushing him off when he decided to run to Gigi and bury himself in her arm pit. And he still didn't cry. He's way more of a trooper than I am. But he was ready to go home. We picked up all the recycling and took it to the bin. Then he wanted to pick up the rest of the trash. Another day munchkin.

Miles/Steps:        maybe 2. The park isn't huge.
Weather:             79, sunny, humid
Wildlife:             baby groundhog, lots of birds, one male mallard, and two white "butterflies". Munchkin was counting them.  A whole robins egg. That one wouldn't hatch.
Bathrooms:         What a surprise. We were in an Allentown park and the restrooms were locked. Even on a holiday in summer, and a Sunday to boot.
