satisfying saturday

In 2018 one kind-of depends on hotel breakfast. Our hotel  was an Econolodge, so we weren't expecting much, maybe doughnuts. The plan was to grab a doughnut and then when we arrived in Urbana 90 minutes later, we'd get breakfast at the start point.

No doughnuts. The Econolodge breakfast was coffee, juice, fruit loops, raisin bran and packaged muffins.  We grabbed some juice and decided to just wait till we got to Urbana. The start point served lunch. Oops. Actually nobody in town served breakfast that we found. Maybe the sleep late.

This was the last stamp we needed in our Walking the USA from A-Z book. The walk box was right inside the door of a beautiful restored  train station. The walk started on a rail trail and went down Main Street. The route more or less was a triangle. We went past a lot of historic markers and there the campus of Urbana University. While on campus we went to the Johnny Appleseed Museum.

Unlike the first two towns, Urbana was not dead. Of course there were a few empty store fronts but there were also restaurants, stores, gas stations, and many, many antique stores. The residential neighborhoods were, for the most part, Victorian. It was a nice walk. I think nearly every block had a historical marker.

When we arrived at my sisters home she said the Mississippi is at flood stage. We may have to change the Paducah/St Louis leg of this trip. I'm going to contact the St Louis POC on Tuesday.

Tomorrow we'll go across the street to Tom Sawyer State Park, and then in the afternoon to the botanical garden.

Miles/Steps:          4.75 miles total
Weather:               72, sunny for the walk. Not much shade
Wildlife:                 none
Bathrooms:           the one at the train station was lovely. I'd say I-4.5
