fitness challenge, round two

Two fitness challenges in less than a week? Maybe I'm getting my mojo back.

Yesterday Bonnie called. It was "Bring A Friend" week at the Rodale Aquatic Center. Did I want to skip walking today and go to the pool for a hydro-rider class. She even volunteered to loan me a suit. How could I go wrong. I wore the barefoot shoes that I use in mud runs. They have laces.

Hydro-rider is pretty much a spin class in the pool. No stress on the knees. Like Saturday, when I got out of the pool I had jelly legs.

After checking in and filling out the waiver (really, can we just have a universal waver?) we headed to the locker room and pool.

First we had to adjust the bikes. Bonnie knew her settings, and set mine the same. I just needed to do the foot holds. Of course I had trouble getting on. (I really need to do something about my lack of flexibility.) Then you pool the bike to the edge of the pool and throw it in. Really. Of course mine landed on it's side. I can never do anything the easy way.

Got in, got on the bike. Class starts.

We are barely past the warm-up, and guess what. My shoelace gets caught in the bike. Guess laces don't make good water shoes. The instructor tried to free me, and finally we gave up. The class continued with me tethered to my bike.

At the end, we decided I'd take off my shoe, pull the bike out of the water, then get it untangled. In the process of trying to get the shoe off, I managed to get it unstuck.

It was fun.

Later, I walked to the polls. I vote at Broughal, so it's no further than walking to work. Them I headed to Cantelmi's to buy wood putty. I am battling carpenter ants. They keep drilling holes, I keep spraying them with WD40 and filling them with putty.  I wish they'd go somewhere else. I was #26 at 3:30 int he afternoon. Really people. Democracy is not a spectators sport.

Coming home I took the greenway. And then came out the little street behind the Comfort Suites. It's a beautiful shady street. Or should I say it was. The power company was cutting big Vs into the tree's, or worse. I'm going to go past tomorrow. I bet they are all butchered.

On Sunday I received an email about a 500 mile challenge. I think I am going to do it. 500 miles between now and November. You need to do 3 miles a day to finish on time. It's only $10 so it's in budget. Kind-of. It's sponsored by the Sly Fox Running Club in Pottstown and goes toward their scholarship fund. I'll add the flier to my email newsletter next week.

My plans have changed for this Saturday, so I am available to walk. Anybody wanna come?
