Today, in the heat, I did two walks. Call me crazy.
The first walk was on Sand Island. I had to take maps to the Hotel Bethlehem for the volkssport box, so I figured since I was already parked, I might as well do a loop of the island. Then I hit the book store. It was a win-win. The most interesting thing happened at Moravian College. All the brass instruments were out on the patio. I didn't realize you had to air out brass.
Then, this afternoon I did a Tail on the Trail walk at Jacobsburg State Park. It began at 5:30 with a lecture from a sports medicine person from St. Lukes. The topic was hydration. How much water do you need. Hold on to your hats, it's a lot. You divide your weight in half, and that's how many ounces you need. So a 100 pound person needs 50 ounces of water. Big fat Gayle's at 250 pounds need 125 ounces. I get the 50 ounces, maybe even a gallon, but that is it. Then, you ADD more for activity. 2% more per hour of exercise. Also, only water the first hour. Don't add any Gatorade-like product until hour two.
The trail was hard. They said two miles, but I think it was more. Maybe the heat made it seem longer. Or maybe because it was 80% uphill. Even the flat was uphill. I hung near the back of the pack. Well, I was the back of the pack. I walked with the sweep.
And I forgot to the pictures.
Miles/Steps: 6 for the whole day. That includes two small dog walks
Weather: afternoon-84, sunny, hazy, hot and humid.
Bathrooms: I-3.5 on sand island; I-5.5 at environmental ed center available
Wildlife: monarch butterfly, heard two woodpeckers on Sand Island.
