One of Pam's friends contacted her about a 5K at Moravian Academy. It was in support of a student who died of cancer. I haven't done a 5K in ages, yet alone one in the sun.
We met at the MA field house. It was a group from Pam's running group, the Foxy Ladies. Some where running, some walking for time, and the rest meandering like us. We didn't even take a number.
The course went all over the campus. We got the walking tour of the athletic and solar fields, and the academic campus. The first two miles were in the sun with a tiny bit of shade. It was also mostly on grass. I couldn't take it. I dropped out.
The start and finish lines were not the same, so I found the finish, and backtracked to a really shady area to wait for Pam and her friend. Then I walked with them to the finish.
As we approached, a woman behind me said could you speed up a hair? I want to be last. So I left her. Unknown to us, there was still a group behind her.
Even though the course wound around the campus, it was easy to follow.
There was a line in the grass and often orange cones. Especially if you
thought you needed to make a decision. It was a well organized events.
At the finish line it was a carnival feeling. They even were giving out free ice cream!
Miles/Steps: 5K
Weather: mid-80s, sunny, really humid
