faculty of the future conference
Yesterday was the Faculty of the Future Conference at Buck County Community College. It's an all day training thing for teachers. I go every other, maybe every third, year. (I need to have 24 continuing education credits for my online teaching job and this is a great way to get a bunch done in one day.) The food is amazing.
Hell, it's worth the drive for the food.
The plate above is almost healthy except for volume. There's roasted vegetables, greens, tomatoes, mozzarella, black olives, cucumbers, lentils and bulgar, couscous and sun-dried tomatoes, twraviolili with sun-dried tomatoes and a piece of chicken. I built an extreme salad. I also had 2 bottles of water. Oh. And a chocolate chip cookie. I took it without thinking. I was so busy staying away from the unhealthy choices in the main spread, that cookies never crossed my mind as being unhealthy. And I took them so I had to eat them. My mama would say "there are people starving in India". It never really made any sense, but when mama talks, you listen.
(I was initally puzzled why the Muslim teachers weren't eating. I thought, even if they are halal, there's plenty of vegetarian options. Then I had the aha moment. It's Ramadan.)
They give us about an hour and a half lunch break. Maybe a little more. You're supposed to go look at the poster presentations. I go for a walk and explore. We were in a different cafeteria this time. An eating space outside the gym. So there were new worlds to explore.
Needless to say, I found myself in the arts area. What a shock, right?
When I returned to the building for the next session someone was telling someone else about the beautiful sculpture garden she found. It was near the original mansion. Of course you knew I was going to go find it.
After the sessions were over I stopped at the library for wine (they had sushi too!), and headed out to explore again. The first year I went the cocktail hour was at the mansion so I knew where it was. I think it's the house of the original estate that the college is built on.
I was exploring the grounds and found a wall. I looked over the wall and there it was. A beautiful, very proper, formal garden. But how to get to it? I followed the wall and eventually found stairs and down I went. I only took a couple of dozen pictures. Then I headed for the parking lot and headed home.
Miles/Steps: About 4.
Bathrooms: I-4.5 Much better than NCCs
Wildlife: None really.
Weather: Upper 70s and partly cloudy. Actually a pretty perfect day.
$ Found: Zip
Extras: I missed my turn and didn't realize it, so I was far out of my way. Then, I found County Line Road I knew that would take me home, but I headed south instead of north. (Bonnies car tells you direction. Missed that!) When I saw the Wawa at the VE turn (volkssport meeting place) I knew I was wrong. I turned around at the VE and headed home. It took 2.5 hours instead of 1.5. Oops.
