cell phone saga

For as long as I've had a cell phone, I've been on Bonnie's family plan. Her son Jarrod had gotten a phone and a couple months later her died. She didn't want to deal with closing the account, so I took his phone and have been paying her my share of the bill since.

About 2.5 years ago I got the iPhone and 1G of data to go with it. I didn't really need a smart phone, but the choices for non-smart phones were really limited. So I took the plunge.

I discovered quickly with a smart phone that you couldn't do anything without the account owners permission. So if I needed something to happen at the store, I'd have to drag her along. That was a pain, so I just figured out work arounds. It was fine.

In January, I think, she lost her phone and said in February she was switching carriers and getting rid of the family plan. She'd save half the money. Then she found her phone and every month I asked is it this month?

At the beginning of May she said the 13th was the big day. I'd need to have my choice made so I could switch. I was ready. I had pared it down to a couple of choices. I was waiting for my phone to die so I could go -- like a grown up -- and get my own service. The 13th came and went. My phone still worked. Same on the 14th, 15th ect. At one point she said she was having issues with the web site. I thought she pushed it off another month.

Nope.

Yesterday I called her for something random and she said "Have you switched your phone yet?" I told her no, I was waiting for it to die. Well, in order for it to die, it turns out, I need to switch it. TOTAL miscommunication. WHy didn't she call me on the 14th or the 16th or something? Why wait a half month?

Okay. I will go do it right now.

I grabbed my purse and walked to the phone store across from Aharts. (See, this is a walking story!) My phone was locked. I had to go to ATT. Walking home, I called her. I'm walking home, I'll grab the car and go to ATT. I fear that they'll do that owner thing with me. They always do. She gave me her password.

I arrived, and asked them to unlock my phone. He goes into the website and guess what? He asks me if I'm the owner of the account. AAAARGH!

So now I have to go back after 3:30 and try again. After they unlock it (I pray) then I'm going to Cricket. There plan is the cheapest for unlimited talk and text, and 2 gigs of data/month--$30 tax included. Since I've only used 6.7 the entire time I've had the phone I should be good.  And guess what? Cricket is owned by ATT!

And this will only be temporary. I really want to research MINT Mobile (T-Mobile network). Nice graphics, easy to use website. (These are the things I care about.) This is not a monthly serve but you buy 3-6-12 at a time. The more you buy the cheaper it is. The smallest package with 2 gigs of data is $15 introductory and goes up to $23 after that. I just need to do more research. Cricket will be fine for now.

Adulting sucks.

Miles/Steps:   1.5
Weather:         Humid and sunny.

Extra:              I've walked everyday since Saturday. First time in a long time. It must continue.

Update: I've been working on the cellphone issue for days. This morning I was finally able to get it unlocked. It's Sunday. Now I have to wait 48 hours for it to process ....
