volkssporting with an almost 11 year old.

Today Angel, Darrel and the not so wee one, did the Bethlehem North walk. It was an adventure.

Lil Miss is a tween. Exercise has become a dirty word. She wants no part of it. Her body is changing and she's figuring out how to adapt. Mom says sure you can have a doughnut, but we have to walk for it. It's all a big game to keep her moving.

Last weekend Angel came with us on the trip. She thought Volkssport walking might be good for the whole family. Lil Miss loved it.

We met at the Hotel Bethlehem, and went inside. I retrieved the box from the desk, and we found a table to use. Sunday's they are set up for brunch and there isn't a square inch available. She signed her name in the register. She stamped her own book, making sure the knobby was in the front. She returned the box to the desk clerk, and remembered to say thank-you.

And she read the directions. All of the directions. All of the narrative.

Our first stop was the smithy and he was not quite open. But he left us come in. I think she was impressed.

Mom and Dad went to Moravian. They clearly didn't need to know the party line on the Moravians and the college. Mommy tried to distract her by showing her where her dorm was. Totally uninterested unless it was on the instructions.
There was a little confusion on the directions at the Old Moravian chapel, but other than that things went smoothly. At that point she was asking to do a 10K. (Who are you and what did you do with Lil Miss?)

She carefully and completely copied down the answer at the checkpoint. (Above.) Mommy did mention it was not respectful to sit on someone's grave. But this particular grave they drive cars over. It's in the middle of the road!

By the time we arrived at Broad street she was just starting to get antsy and suggested only doing the 5K. That's all we had planned, but didn't tell her. Angel was due at work at noon.

Tuesday night we're going to do the Bethlehem South walk. 6 or 10K I don't know. I guess we'll see. Anyone else want to come?
