walking vacation: day three, kentucky ren faire

Not much walking today. We went to the Kentucky Renaissance Faire instead. I thought it would involve a lot of walking, but the fairgrounds was rather small. You drove down a long dusty road to get to the a parking area, then there was a short walk down a winding path, over a foot bridge to get to the admission gate. It kind-of made a nice transition between the 21st and 16th centuries.

We walked a lot, but I didn't even reach my minimum. The toddler had no interest in his stroller. He wanted to wander.  Megan has spent a lot of time at this faire when she lived in Kentucky. She knew a lot of people. She was also dressed in costume--a pirate theme, because it was pirate weekend.

We watched a bit of the mud show, and then had walked up to the crafting area.

While I was waiting for the shoppers there was a busker with a whip that threw fireballs. Nobody wanted to go see him, and I decided to go alone, but then "Anabelle", Megan's 12 year old cousin who came on the trip to help with babysitting, said she would go.
This parrot guarded the busker's money box. They did fire swallowing, the whip, the bed of nails and oh, sword swallowing. Anabelle thought it was cool, but she also thought it was a trick, like a magician.  She kept asking how he did that.

Afterwards we found them at the inn, watching Megan's friend play as the Drunkin’ Sailors. Of course it was 12:45 and they we not drunk. It was, after all, the family friendly show.

After seeing some fantastic costumes, and some people that should have rethought their costumes, we headed toward the exit. That's when we spied the stone carver. This was quite the elaborate design.

Once we returned to my sister's, I helped with the birthday dinner prep and I planned to walk around the neighborhood to bring up my totals. But then a massive storm blew in, and cancelled those plans.
