Today I had my long delayed skin check. First it was postponed because of the scabies, and then Covid. 2021 has been a helluva year. When I rescheduled I told them it was because I was positive.
I arrive at the office and there is a clipboard of covid forms, pencils, hand sanitizer, and sign that says "if you check yes to any questions, return to your car and call". Shit. I had two yes answers. I did not have a phone. Now what the duck do I do?
I went outside and looked around. I wandered the hall, finally I went back in and got the attention of someone in the waiting room. "Could you tell them Gayle Hendricks is here and I don't have a phone." Thankfully she did. They called me over, went over the form and I sat down.
In less than five minutes I was in the exam room. The doctor walks in and says "how's the scabies?" I said, I thought they went away, but I started itching again last week. They aren't as bad. They haven't kept me up as much.
The search begins. She found more than I did. She said, I need to leave, I be right back. Don't get dressed. The door starts to close, and it reopens. I did do your skin check. You have surprisingly few moles. And she was gone.Five minutes later she comes back and tells me to get dressed, we needed to switch rooms, she was going to do some scrapings and a biopsy.
The new room looked like a lab. I now have a hole in my arm, that will take up to two weeks to heal. She took scraping from my feet, arms, toros, lots from my fingers. She couldn't take from my back and one arm because I scraped them open. I was told to refill the Triamcinolone. That's the huge jar that looks like moisturizer with medicine in it. Twice a day. Ugh. I found out today that it was a steroid.
Plus I have to wash my sheets everyday and can only wear my clothes once. Who washes everyday? Everything has to be washed in HOT water. By the end of this I'll need a new set of sheets and all new clothes. Who wears spring sweaters and jackets once and washes them? Does anyone really wear their pjs once? My water bill is going to skyrocket.
Later in the day they called and said they were calling in a oral pill. I went to Target to pick it up and there was 14 pills in the bottle. The original cost was near $40 but the Good RX price was closer to $17. I need to buy stock in that company. I open the bottle. There's 14 pills. I needed to take SEVEN immediately, and then take seven more next week. It will be two weeks before the biopsy comeback. I return then.
This is getting really expensive. Remember without a supplement, I have to pay 20% of everything. My dermatologist is independent so I can't use my hospital F.A.P. card
Why do I get diseases multiple times? In 2021 I've had scabies twice and covid twice. Honestly, it's enough. I'm done supporting physicians and Big Pharma.
