golv: tatamy on groundhog day
Today was the Get Out Lehigh Valley walk at Mill Creek Park in Tatamy. It was also Groundhog Day. Phil, by the way, predicted an early spring. It's been a hard week with sub freezing temperatures so it was welcome news. Of course Phil has a 39% accuracy rate, about the same as the weather people. And spring will come March 21 — the temperature be damned.
It was still pretty cold today when we began. By Tuesday it's supposed to work it's way back up to the high 50s. Then by the end of the week snow. The weather is wacky. Mother Nature must be in menopause.
I didn't walk much this week with single digit temperatures and double digit negative wind chills. It wasn't as horrible here as in Chicago. For that I am grateful.
This is part of the Palmer Rail Trail so it is an out and back walk. It was paved and it was plowed, which was wonderful. Not super exciting, but it was beautiful. We went west for about a half mile, and then came back and went east for another mile, past the old grist mill into Tatamy. The group stopped for pizza. I just turned around and came back.
Miles/Steps: 3+
Weather: 8 when I started, 28 an hour and a half later, mostly sunny, not too windy
Wildlife: 3 pairs of mallards, about a dozen Canadian geese, and one wood duck.
Bathrooms: locked, it's winter
Extra: I found this scooter in the snow. I think someone forgot it. It looked parked. I don't think it is broken.
