Sunday I wanted to go far away from home to walk, but I wasn't in the mood. So I decided to look for someplace that was close by and someplace that I could do something else too. I am having way to much quality time with the roomie. My first thought was the IRT. I sent a text to Lydia and said I'd pick her up. No reply. I didn't want to go all the way to Orefield to walk alone. Then it hit me. Emmaus. I could go to the South Mountain trail head and then go to the Farmer's Market.
So I head to South Mountain. I forgot how short the main trail is. There are lots of little ones, but I have vowed not to do those alone after getting lost in Kentucky. The trail was only about .7 miles one way. I arrived at the next trail head and look at the sign board. There is an ADA trail that makes a loop straight ahead. I figure that has to be wide and clear, right? Wrong. I reach the point that it is impassable and I turn around and go back.
I was almost back and remembered seeing a "homestead" trail. I knew it looped, so I took it up a hill, and back to the parking lot. Even with all the side trips and I only did about 2.5 miles.
The farmer's market is 5-6 blocks from the trail head. It's so much larger than the one in South Bethlehem. And there are so many meat and cheese stands. Too bad no one in my house can appreciate them.
