heaven help me, it zumba night!

But I shall go. I haven't really done much serious walking in weeks except for 5Ks and special events. It has been just too damn hot. Funny, when I was training for the three day I went out come hell or high water. I was "training". But now I'm not and I've lost motivation. But I've gained 6 pounds. That trend needs to stop.

The weather has broken and I have no excuses. So tonight I shall go to Zumba and do 1/2 of what everyone else does and try to do more.

And I can't back out. I wrote it here, and I put it in my Presidential Challenge log. So I am going.

We did not resign-up for torture class. There was nothing beginner about it. Starting next week, we will go back to climbing stairs and taking hour long hilly walks on College hill.

One day next week we will also walk down to Connexions gallery for the "We" exhibit. I participated so I'd like to see the finished projects. It's collaborative art. So on one I did the first layer, the next the second, and the final the third. I know what the third one looks like. So-so. The first one is now beautiful. The second I haven't seen.

Finally I've discovered standing most of the day, three days a week burns a couple calories. On the livestrong.com it says that a person in my weight category can burn " 726 calories while standing quietly for eight hours and 1,670 calories performing eight hours of office work while standing."

The pop up says that an "average person must stand for 61 hours to burn the amount of calories in one pound of body fat.

This was on ABC news the other night. I don't think I'll ever get the desk with the built in treadmill!

new workspace

Shortly after I made the decision to stand to work, we played another round of musical offices. I moved, yet again. This time I get a window, a door, and a U-shaped desk big enough for three. It also has a built in riser/bookshelf thing that is perfect for the computer. And I found a high office chair in the storage room.

A colleague yesterday came in and went on and on about standing to work. He wants to too. He was eying up my mega desk. It's in pieces so he could easily take a section. He is a department head and full time. I completely expect to come in one day and see it gone. The chair too.

I could improvise something for the desk again, but the chair is nice. Not standing for a full 8-hours is great. I was getting fatigued by two. This is the best of both worlds.

I'm also thinking about going to Bed Bath & Beyond and getting a chef's mat to stand on. Wednesday I forgot my shoes and had to wear my sneakers all day. I felt much different, less tired at the end of the day. Rubber helps.

I don't expect to be in this office long. It was a junk room. I cleaned it up, sent extra furniture to storage, recycled lots of things and made it usable. Every time I do that I get moved. I'm guessing by Christmas break.

Update:
I bought the mat. An eco-friendly version that was more than half the price of the gel chef ones. I had no idea how expensive these puppies were. I couldn't afford the gel ones even with my 20% off coupon! I think Monday, my day off, I'll take this to the office and set it up. I'm not working Tuesday, and Wednesday is torture day, and not a day I drive. If I don't take it Monday, it will have to wait till Thurdays. I don't want to do that.

When they take away my riser, they cannot take away my mat. I'll bring it home and use it in the kitchen.

I also bought a basket with a lid to put my personal stuff in. No drawers.

standing to work.

I've been reading, and seeing, reports that standing is good for you. It make the blood flow, not clot, and reduces your risks for strokes. Mostly it makes you less fatigued.

I've been working on several projects at work that are big, with massive amounts of copy. I nearly fall asleep at my desk. Today, I worked for about an hour and then said the hell with it, and moved my computer. That was about 9, after climbing stairs at 6:30 am.

I'm starting to get tired. I'll admit it. But there's only an hour left in the day. I can do it.

Note to self. Clean up bookcase. Maybe actually put books in it!
