heat and pain

There was a volkssport walk today in Harleysville. I decided to bite the bullet and go. I got to get out there and exercise. The photo above hows just how fat I am. Even though I’ve lost about 10 pounds.

This walk went on the fitness trails in several retirement communities. Fairly flat which is one reason I decided to go. The other was I’ve never done this walk before. There was a labyrinth early on in a very shady area. But 80% of the walk was all out in the sun and pretty damn hot. Every time I hit shade I sang “It’s shade! It’s shade!”

We all did the 6K. I did okay for the first three. I even took my hiking stick. But then my knee started screaming. I had forgotten how much it hurt because all week I’ve been taking the Prednisone for my poison and it must have an anti-inflammatory in it. And of course that’s over. I slowed down considerably and stopped frequently. Elie, mostly stayed with me. She’s 90 and can walk circles around everyone else.

Near the end there was a park with a pavilion. Everyone took to the pavilion to cool off. Bill and I took to the swings.  Oddly the swings didn’t hurt.

My ice pack is back in the freezer. It’s time to use it. Also this week I did the chair class at the senior center and the chair yoga class in Allentown.

Best exercise week in a helluva long time. Now I need to follow thru.
