Today was the Get Out Lehigh Valley hike at Hawk Mountain. The weather report originally said it was going to be nice out, but it was drizzly and damp. I went anyway.
The weather kept some regular people away. This is prime season for Hawk Mountain. All the birds are active and migrating. We could actually park in a lot instead of the road.
We began with the Silhouette Trail. This trail has sculptures of the birds in silhouette so you can identify them when you get to the top. This trail is easy and ADA accessible and takes you to the south lookout. When we arrived there all we saw was dense fog. There would be no view today at the top.
Then we took the North Look-Out Trail. It was typical Rocksylvania. And it got worse the higher you went. The occasional railings are now Trex, which is nice. No splinters or rope burns. I took few pictures because I was trying to stay upright, and the rain/fog just made miserable shots. We climbed and climbed and I DID NOT FALL. Almost, once, coming down, but I did a hike without injuries.
We also tool the side trail to the "slide". But there is nothing but a foundation left, at least in dense fog.
It was a good, exhausting, hike, but it seemed short. I wanted a nap when I got home.
52-hike challenge: 47/52
Miles/Steps: just under 3 miles
Bathroom: L-4.5. Calling this a latrine does not do it justice. It was a brick building with a composting toilet.
Weather: 65, foggy, rainy, damp.
