signs

Found at the base of the College. I've seen it several times but never had my camera with me. Finally I took it.

Found at the Steel Stacks Farmers Market on Thursday. Bought a lot. Including Handmade, local, blood orange ice cream. Tart and sweet. A zillion more calories and far richer than supermarket ice cream.

Also at the market was the Ball canning people. They had a gizmo I'm going to make. It looks like a plastic stick with a magnet on the end. For picking up lids. So cool. No more burnt fingers.

splat

It's 81 degrees and only 9:40. It's gonna be a scorcher. Again.

Betsy and I didn't go walking again yesterday because of the heat. Last night Bonnie called and wanted to walk. I said we had to go early. We went at 7. It was damn hot, but there was shade.

Bonnie is off the DL and back to work, but she needs to ease back into walking. She can not fall. I planned what I thought was a three mile walk with small hills. Bonnie wanted to go further so we changed course and went further. It added no distance at all. Turns out the walk was only 2.5+ miles either way! We're doing a 4 mile on July 4, so tomorrow we'll need to do at least 4.

Anyway, we're coming back Broadway and are at the 5-points. The walk signal turns and some butt hole comes around the corner nearly plowing us over. Last time I looked the little white man scratching his butt, meant it was our turn!

So we walk past the new TD Bank, and crossed Bradley. We're maybe two houses in and I trip over nothing. Went flying left, right towards someones porch and into Bonnie's space. I was headed for my battered knees, and managed to turn to get my butt. Bonnie didn't fall. I saw this leg fly over me and straddle me. I think she grabbed the porch. If she fell, Alan would have killed me. And probably never left Bonnie leave the house again.

We're going to do it again tomorrow. This time it will be four miles.

more short walks

Bonnie is slowly coming back from the DL list. When she's 100% recovered, we are burning the dam thing. I'm serious.

Today I planned a 2 mile walk, down by the river again. It's getting a bit redundant, but it's the only place I know that is flat.

This time we started at Union Station, walked along the railroad tracks, around Riverport and out Columbia Street. We took the pix at the remodeled Victory Firehouse. It's now some-sort of science/tech based business.  Then we walked around NCC-Southside, thru Arts Quest and back First Street to Webster. We took Webster to Third, and then headed back to Union Station. A figure 8 route that was about 2.3 miles.

water review four?

Is this the fourth water? I don't remember.

When we were tripping around NYC on Tuesday, we stopped to get water at Duane Reade on our way to the Port Authority for the bus. I was hoping to get some of the artesian water I had the last time I was in the city.

At the one we were at, at 8th avenue and about 44th street, there was none in the coolers. On the floor you could buy it by the gallon and quart.

The graphic designer in me reached for the store brand spring water. The UPC code is a statue of liberty. Also available are a subway car, a skyline, and the Brooklyn bridge. All the store brand products have these UCP codes, and the are the major art work also. I was down right giddy in the trail mix aisle. My pix got awful, so I borrowed this one from a web site.

I had it in my hand and the graphic designer saw another bottle. It's a continuous label, which is what we are working on in out package design class. It's water and blackberry essence. Looks great and was cold. But really tasted like plain water, not worth the money. But then again, who wants to fill up their water bottle at a NYC public fountain?

there is a dress barn at the casino!

The casino in town has a mall. I guess it's a high end outlet mall. If that's the case I don't understand why Dress Barn is there. But it doesn't matter. It's there. It is my favorite store to buy clothes and I can walk to it—that should keep the binge purchases down. You are looking at one fat girl in heaven!

This week has been a series of little walks and Zumba. Nothing exciting.

I did go to Zumba Wednesday night. It was hot. Very hot. I still only did maybe a third of it. I am just not that coordinated. But I will try at least one more time.

Thursday I had a meeting at Gilbert's on campus and took the scenic route there and back. I could have stayed all day. We talked about the project—a book filled with photos of dead pigeons—for ten minutes and talked the rest. Part way in we were joined by the college archivist. It was my kind of meeting.

I usually walk from a drop-off point from the car pool. But I was a lazy butt and had them drop me off at home. The heat was on.

Friday I did not walk with Betsy. We decided that an afternoon walk in 100 degree weather was crazy. And they were calling for violent storms. Instead, I did a morning, two mile flat walk with Bonnie down at the Steel. The storms never came, but it did rain hard a couple of times. Later in the afternoon the power went off. In the dark for a hour and a half, I went for Chinese for dinner.

Today, Sharon, Lyd and I went for 2.66 miles, around the steel, the casino and a section of the Greenway that we've never walked on. The extension to Hellertown is being worked on. Can't wait to walk the whole thing. It will meet with the Saucon Valley Trail, and then with the Coopersburg trail. Being noisy, I trip over a guide wire at the Skatepark.

I did every walk in my Birks. It was heaven.

torture class, week four

My colleague picked me up at 6:15, and as I got in her car, she said "I don't want to go to torture class". So we walked instead.

Zumba tonight. Maybe. Depends on how hot it is.

new york city

Yesterday I played hookey from work and went to New York City. Don't tell mama. She was real into the Protestant work ethic. Playing hookey was no part of it.

I don't know how far I walked, but I walked from 42 nd to 72nd and a couple of the Avenues. Once a full trip. The second a partial. I had Sharon with me and she never rode the subway. She can now cross that off her bucket list.

Plus I stood in line, a lot. Lines for buses, lines for television stations, lines everywhere.

Alas, reality bites and I'm back at work. It's air conditioned, and my house isn't so I guess it's a good thing!
